Inipi Ceremony: Lakota Style
Sweat Lodge
This is a traditionally based Inipi ceremony run by a sacred pipe (chanunpa) carrier, who has the responsibility of running the Inipi ceremony or sweat lodge with the greatest attention to traditional practices.
This is a spiritual experience, a cleansing, a clearing and renewal. This is one of the oldest, living ceremonies that has been passed down for centuries through the Cheyenne/Lakota ancestry, completely intact. It is an ancient and sacred ceremony that requires complete focus, reverence and mindfulness.
We are honoring our selves, our families, ancestors, The Creator, Earth, Spirit, the animal world, plant kingdom, the mineral and astral beings, and all life. Each participant will go through it with grace and dignity and will prepare throughout the day with guidance, and teachings to help heal. We will pray, work, laugh, meditate, share and eat together. Participants are encouraged to ask appropriate questions throughout the day.
The Inipi is an all day ceremony which should be approached with true humility and respect. The ceremony may invoke feelings of discomfort and fear, but it is always safe. Your guide, and above all, Spirit, will make sure of that.
This ceremony is open to all willing and able-bodied participants.
